under the redwoods and stars each summer
they learnt to play music
and know...solo and in unison... what that does to one.
out there by the river, with the moon and the silence
sleeping in cots in the sweet open air
thousands of children felt this gift.
today we have received the sad news

"may flights of angels sing theee to they rest"
( shakespeare )
At age 12, in a small Nebraska town, Bob Lutt persuaded his financially strapped parents to buy him a $25 trombone, making weekly 50-cent payments until it was paid off.
The simple transaction set his life on a six-decade musical journey as a teacher, mentor and conductor to tens of thousands of Bay Area youth.
Mr. Lutt, a beloved Berkeley High School musical director and founder of the Cazadero Music Camp, died Oct. 26 at his Berkeley home, after an extended illness. He was 82.
